Marsden & Slaithwaite Centres– What could be better?

A study of Marsden and Slaithwaite is currently being conducted by a team of consultants who have been asked to consider ways to improve the look and feel of the public space in the centres of both villages. They began in March by looking at issues such as the appearance of streets and buildings and the way that traffic moves around the villages. The consultants have been brought in by Kirklees Council, the local Renaissance Market Town Steering Group and Yorkshire Forward and their work is expected to be finished by June.

What do you think?

We want to hear from local people about what they think of the village centres.
  • What do you like best about Marsden and Slaithwaite centres?
  • What could be better?
  • What changes could be made to make the areas look better?
  • How can the centres be changed so that pedestrians and traffic can mix happily?
  • What will make using the centres easier and more enjoyable for everyone?
Fill in a comments card available at Marsden and Slaithwaite libraries and Marsden Information Point (or download it here) and pop it in the marked box or e-mail us at: marsden.slaithwaitermt@kirklees.gov.uk. The closing date for comments is 31.05.2009 Some people have already told us what they think. A set of 10 leaflets have been distributed throughout the area, each one features a different person expressing their thoughts and views. The full set of leaflets and stories can be downloaded here. These stories will inform our design proposals and will be published at a community consultation event planned for June 2009 and on this website.
